Yumi Shitama Jarris, MD

Yumi Shitama Jarris, MD is a Professor of Family Medicine and Director of Medical Student Education. Dr. Jarris is the director of a new medical student track, the Population Health Scholars Track (starting in the summer of 2015). She previously directed Patients, Population & Policy, a required first year medical student module since 2008. She currently practices in the Georgetown Student Health Center. 

Dr. Jarris completed the MedStar Health Teaching Scholars Program and received a Medical Education Research Certificate from the AAMC. She is faculty for the AAMC Northeast Regional LEAD program. She was the PI for a $510, 000 HRSA Predoctoral Training Grant and has been awarded five CIRCLE grants for curricular innovation since joining Georgetown University Medical Center in 2006. She received the Henry Walton Prize from the journal, Medical Education for the most downloaded article from “Really Good Stuff” in 2012. She was chosen to present her response at the AAMC Annual Meeting for the 2011 Academic Medicine Question of the Year, Beyond the Exam Room: A Call for Integrating Public Health into Medical Education. Her interests include population health in medical education, adolescent medicine, critical reflection in medical education, and work-life balance.
