Dr. Priscilla Furth, MD, Professor of Oncology and Medicine and Associate Dean for Faculty Development, has served as a faculty educator in medical and graduate schools since 1985. Her current educational focus revolves around the teaching of translational medicine at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. She serves as one of the Course Directors for Pathologic Basis of Cancer and contributes lectures to a broad range of subjects at GUMC from basic molecular mechanisms of cell behavior to the role of exercise in cancer survivorship. Within the graduate school she mentors Masters and PhD students within her own laboratory and is a member or chair of many PhD Thesis Committees, serves on the Tumor Biology NIH T32 Oversight Committee, and has been a mentor or advisor for 12 peer-reviewed grants for graduate and postgraduate work. 

Dr. Furth is a recipient of the University of Maryland’s Department of Family Medicine’s Specialist Award given for outstanding clinical teaching of residents. In 2009 she was selected as a 5-year visiting World Class Faculty member by the Republic of Korea and taught courses in Graduate Pathology and Molecular Biology at Dankook University. She was a member of the Georgetown University 2011 Site Visit Team for LCME Accreditation and served on Georgetown’s 2014 Teaching Academy Task Force. Over her career Dr. Furth has taught in all of the traditional venues of medical center teaching: small group, lecture, bedside, grand rounds, morning report, CME, tumor boards and specialty conferences. She looks forward to engaging in the new opportunities that digital teaching platforms bring for enhancing her educational efforts.
